If your child is absent for any reason, either leave a message on the answer phone or send a note giving the reason when the child returns. Should you need to take your child out of school during school hours, please send a note in advance.
From 1st September 2013, the Department for Education has changed the rules regarding parents taking children out of school for holidays during term time. The implications are as follows:
- Headteachers will no longer be allowed to authorise any holiday during term time.
- If a child is taken on holiday during term time then their absence has to be recorded as ‘unauthorised’.
- Attendance data for schools is stored centrally and monitored by the Attendance Team.
- Penalty notices and a fine can be issued to parents for unauthorised absence at the Attendance team’s discretion.
As required by law, at the back of the prospectus, there is a statement of authorised and unauthorised absences from school during the last academic year.
